The course provides future On-the-Job Training Instructors (OJTIs) with the skills necessary to instruct students in a calm and professional manner whilst at the same time ensuring safety during the operational part of their training.
An important and necessary aspect of an experienced Air Traffic Controller's work is the ability to train new recruits on the job - an apprenticeship that can take months. The experienced controller is required to take on the essential responsibility as mentor and coach; this course prepares them for that role.
Entry Point North conducts On-the-Job Training Instructor (OJTI) courses and refresher courses. The course will also enhance teaching and communication skills; thereby enabling individuals to expand their own personal development, as well as becoming better instructors within their chosen safety related field.
The course uses various teaching methods such as role plays, videos, case studies and discussions. The majority of the course comprises practical exercises in On-the-Job Training techniques, coupled with extensive feedback by course instructors. The practical exercises for student Air Traffic Controllers are carried out on radar simulators.
OJTI courses are a combination of distance learning and on-site training, which can be conducted at Entry Point North or at the customer's own premises, depending upon the customer’s preferences and needs.
This course has been approved by the national Regulators in Denmark, Norway and Sweden and is compliant with the corresponding course delivered by Eurocontrol.
