An Approach Control Procedural (APP) rating entitles the holder to provide an air traffic control service to arriving, departing or transiting aircraft without the use of surveillance equipment or where it is needed as backup if surveillance equipment fails.

The Approach Procedural rating training module provides students with the skills necessary to control traffic safely and expeditiously in accordance with laid down rules and regulations in an approach environment, without the aid of surveillance equipment (radar).

The course focuses on specific tasks, separations and methods used in a procedural environment, delivered through theoretical lessons and practical exercises in a procedural simulator.

The training is conducted using generic airspace and simulates traffic in an approach procedural environment, with one active airport and an adjacent area control centre with radar service. This offers the students an environment similar to the real working environment and the chance to gain hands-on experience in dealing with operational situations for this type of air traffic control.

Entry Point North hires instructors from a current operational ATC environment. This enables us to maintain a very close link with new developments and a high level of competency. Throughout the training, all students operate in a teamwork simulator environment, enhancing a well structured learning process.

The module follows closely the Eurocontrol Common Core Content specifications and prerequisites, EU standards and Best Practice agreements.
