AFIS
AFIS stands for Aerodrome Flight Information Service. This service, also sometimes called AFISO or FISO, is an information service to provide safe and efficient air traffic at an aerodrome by issuing information about traffic, aerodrome conditions and weather, to the pilots.
The AFIS rating module at Entry Point North is designed to give trainees knowledge and practical training to become a Flight Information Officer at an aerodrome in uncontrolled airspace, so called AFIS aerodrome. The main part of the module takes place in a simulator in order to train handling of traffic and methods at an AFIS aerodrome. The Entry Point North AFIS training is compliant with upcoming EUROCONTROL recommendations for AFIS training.
To be able to participate in an AFIS rating module the student must successfully have completed a Basic ATS training module.
Training includes classroom theory and simulator exercises. After completion of the module the trainee is permitted to start practical training at an AFIS aerodrome.
